HOW PADEL SCORING WORKS

Padel scoring explained.

Padel uses the same point system as tennis but with two key differences: matches are almost always doubles, and most clubs now use the star point rule instead of advantage at deuce.

Points

Points go 0, 15, 30, 40, game - identical to tennis. At 40-40 the star point rule kicks in: one sudden-death point decides who wins the game.

Games and Sets

First team to 6 games wins the set - with at least a 2-game lead. At 6-6 a 7-point tie-break decides. Most matches are best of 3 sets.

Serve Rotation

Each player serves one full game. After every game, serve passes to the next player in rotation. Scorepion tracks this automatically.

How are points scored in padel?
Points go 0 (love), 15, 30, 40, game - the same as tennis. At 40-40, most clubs now use the star point rule instead of deuce.
What is the star point in padel?
When both teams reach 40-40, a single sudden-death point decides the game instead of playing deuce and advantage. The receiving team chooses which side to receive on. This rule was officially adopted by the International Padel Federation (FIP) in 2026 and replaces what was previously called "golden point".
How do you win a set in padel?
First team to 6 games wins the set - they must be at least 2 games ahead. At 6-6, a 7-point tie-break decides the set.
When does serve change in padel?
Each player on the serving team serves one full game in rotation. After the game, serve switches to the other team. This continues throughout the match.
How many sets is a padel match?
Most recreational matches are best of 3 sets. Scorepion handles best of 3 and best of 5 formats.
