The organiser has the whiteboard. You have a phone and maybe a watch. Here is how to keep your own running total without slowing anyone down.
To keep track of Americano points, write down the score your pair made each round and add it to your running total, since every player banks their own pair's points. The easy way is an app: in Scorepion, choose "I'm playing in one", pick the four players on your court each round, then score it live or type the final score. Your total and your own ladder update as you go.
In an Americano, your partner changes every round. Each round is played to a set total of points, like 24. Whatever your pair scores, you bank. Win 14-10 and you add 14. Lose 10-14 and you still add 10.
The organiser usually tracks everyone on a sheet, a whiteboard or their own app. That's the official result. But there are good reasons to keep your own:
New to the format? Start with what an Americano is.
Paper works fine. You need one line per round.
| Round | Partner | Score | Banked | Running total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sam | 14-10 | 14 | 14 |
| 2 | Priya | 9-15 | 9 | 23 |
| 3 | Leo | 12-12 | 12 | 35 |
| 4 | Jo | 17-7 | 17 | 52 |
That's a 24-point Americano. Notice round 3: a 12-12 draw still pays 12. The two scores always add up to the round target, so a quick sanity check is that your two numbers make 24.
The problem with paper is your hands are full. You're holding a racket, sweating, and walking to the next court. Which is where an app helps.
Scorepion is a watch-first scoring app that runs Americano events for padel, tennis and badminton. It has two Americano modes. If you're running the event, you use organiser mode. If someone else is running it, you use participant mode. Here's how that works.
There's no player-count rule. You can start with just yourself and add players as you meet them. That also means it works at events with 6, 10 or any odd number of players, where the organiser is juggling sit-outs.
If the organiser changes the plan mid-event, you can edit points and rounds while the event is running.
Yes. Each round is an ordinary match on the watch, so both Apple Watch and Wear OS score it tap by tap. One tap per point. The watch shows the round number and points played instead of games and sets.
Event setup happens on your phone only, so set it up before you head on court. We cover the whole wrist flow in how to score an Americano on your Apple Watch or Wear OS.
Yes. Use "Add another court" to log a score from a court you weren't on. These are typed scores only, since you weren't there to tap them live.
This is handy if you want a fuller picture of the night. Grab the scores from friends or the organiser's board between rounds, and your ladder fills out.
No, and that matters. In participant mode, your ladder is your view of the event. It's built only from what you logged.
If you logged every court, it should match the organiser's board. If you only logged your own rounds, you'll see your total but not a full ranking. Either way, the organiser's standings are the official ones.
The ladder follows the usual Americano rules. You bank your pair's points each round. There's no bonus for winning. A draw pays both pairs in full, and players on equal points share a rank. The full detail is in our guide to Americano draws, ties and the ladder.
Yes, partly. Scorepion keeps lifetime Americano stats: events played, points banked, average finish and best finish. Participant events count toward events played and points banked. They don't count toward finishing position, since your ladder isn't the official result.
Americano rounds also don't change your Scorepion Level. Random partners over short rounds aren't a fair read of your skill.
As for cost, an Americano uses one match credit per event, charged when you create it. Rounds are free, and Pro is unlimited.
